www.ehow.com/how_6464914_make-selling-ad-space-website.html
Selling ad space is a key factor in supporting your website. If your site gets a steady stream of visitors, you can earn money just by allowing companies to place ads on your site. You earn commissions based on the number of people who click the ads, and/or purchase the products advertised. You can sell ad space on your website using the do-it-yourself method: setting pricing, locating potential clients, and auctioning your ad space on sites such as Ebay. Using ad server software such as Ad Butler is necessary when using this method. You can also sell space using an easier method, pay-per-click, using Google adsense, Adbrite, or Commission Junction. Thanks for stopping by 1st Turning Point, a fun place for writers to teach, share, and learn about that first turning point in your career?self-promotion and marketing. The story of your career opens with the decision to write a book, the inciting incident is learning the craft and writing that first piece. But what comes next is just as important if you plan to become a career novelist. It?s your first turning point. These days, we need to begin building an ?author presence? before signing that first contract if we want to sell enough books to win another contract. No longer can we wait to start selling ourselves until we have a book coming out. We have to start while we have the time to prepare physically and financially for the promotional marathon to come. 1st Turning Point is a home for all writers, but especially those who are unpublished, newly published, self-published, e-published, orphaned, small-press published, etc. Whether you write novels, short stories, lyrics, or poetry, we?re here for you. Come inside and take a look around, read some of the helpful articles, see what online and live classes/workshops are coming your way soon, check out the beneficial list of resources, and share some of your own experiences and wisdom with others.

I?m not an expert, but I do tend to know what I like in this world, and when it comes to Twitter I like to follow people who are interesting. Unfortunately, I see far too many authors who use Twitter as a way to inundate readers with their name or simply remind everyone to read their blog. I don?t think that works. It doesn?t work for me and I imagine it doesn?t work for others. Twitter is supposed to be interesting and, frankly, that?s just not interesting. There?s no doubt social media is important in publishing. Heck, it?s important in all business these days, but if you?re going to do it do it well or don?t do it at all. The last thing any author needs is for people to think they?re not interesting. Trust me, you aren?t going to sell books that way.

Bookhaven looks for interesting titles to compliment our product lines. We publish for a select group of authors that write business, career, finance and environmental compliance books. We do not publish fiction or any other books that do not fit into the these categories. Most of our career books focus on government or health care employment, however we would be open to expanding to other areas that compliment our current list. Authors must be computer literate and submit the final manuscript formatted in Microsoft Word, WordPerfect or ASCII Text. We also require authors to actively promote their books and to assist with editing during production. If we accept your book a contract will be sent for your approval and signature. Bookhaven Replies within 8 weeks if an SASE is included with your submission.

www.pw.org/content/social_media_for_authors_forever_in_search_of_buzz?cmnt_all=1
Social Media for Authors: I always ask authors who request my services to begin by considering how it is that their readers know what they know. Did they discover your latest title in a review? Wander into a reading or other event? Or, as is usually the case now, see a mention on some form of social media? When I work on a publicity campaign, I view my objective as twofold: to persuade someone to buy the author???s book???as opposed to all the other books competing for attention???and, more essentially, to speed up that sale and persuade her to do it now. In order to achieve this, an author needs that ever-elusive buzz. But what exactly is buzz, where does it come from, and how do you get it?

Shelf-awareness
www.shelf-awareness.com/about.html
Drop-in titles (also known as crash or add-in titles) continue to grow--and getting the word to booksellers and librarians about these sudden new books or titles with major last-minute changes is ever more problematic. Publishers send the information via reps, faxes and e-mail, a process many of them admit is cumbersome. Sometimes the message makes it through, but booksellers and librarians often feel deluged by the material and can't keep track of it all. Opportunities are lost.

Bookreviewers
www.bookreviewers.org/
Mission: The primary mission of Bettie Corbin Tucker and Glenda Bixler, your website hosts, is to provide a reputable and productive way for new and established authors to have their printed books and/or e-books reviewed by professionals. Our authors keep coming back to us because they trust us; they also refer other writers to us. Periodically, members of our reviewing team will choose one of the books he or she has reviewed to be posted and highlighted on this site. The posting of these "reviewers' choices" will usually occur on a quarterly basis. Please feel free to click on the reviews link to see samples of our past reviews. Each review will be posted on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and to all appropriate websites if this is the desire of the author. We welcome authors who have been published by traditional publishers as well as those who have chosen to self-publish or sign on with a POD publisher.

Themes.freshmeat.net
themes.freshmeat.net/
About freshmeat.net freshmeat maintains the Web's largest index of Unix and cross-platform software, themes and related "eye-candy", and Palm OS software. Thousands of applications, which are preferably released under an open source license, are meticulously cataloged in the freshmeat database, and links to new applications are added daily. Each entry provides a description of the software, links to download it and to obtain more information, and a history of the project's releases, so readers can keep up-to-date on the latest developments. freshmeat is the first stop for Linux users hunting for the software they need for work or play. It is continuously updated with the latest developments from the "release early, release often" community. In addition to providing news on new releases, freshmeat offers a variety of original content on technical, political, and social aspects of software and programming, written by both freshmeat readers and Free Software luminaries. The comment board attached to each page serves as a home for spirited discussion, bug reports, and technical support. An essential resource for serious developers, freshmeat.net makes it possible to keep up on who's doing what, and what everyone else thinks of it.

Welcome to CmdrTaco.net, the Home Away from Home of Rob Malda. This is the place where you can sit and stare in slackjawed amazement at my collection of Amazingly Stupid Stuff that I actually sat down and took the time to put online. Be afraid. For your convenience, my Amazingly Stupid Stuff has been divided into 2 convenient categories... the artsy stuff (writing, photography, cartooning) and nerdy stuff (programming, anime, etc). Of course, there's a fair amount of overlap between the 2, but I hope you'll forgive me.

What I will and will not review: I like: -Fiction: mystery, suspense -Inspirational, consciousness-raising (a la Wayne Dwyer) -Anything about beer, single malts, or Martinis ;-) -Good POD, or "Print on Demand" self-published books that fall under the above catagories. I expect: Quality, so don't send me stuff filled with typos, grammar and punctuation errors... reviewers expect the finished product. If you truly think Microsoft Word is a dependable spelling and grammar checker, then hire an editor. PLEASE. Unless you're John Grisham or Dan Brown, your manuscript should have been at least peer reviewed. You wouldn't believe what I've seen! I'm not interested in: Crap. (see above), memoirs, christian, romance, anything overly crass, hateful or rude. Sound picky to you? I've reviewed some wonderful stuff, but - like I said, you would not believe the garbage I've seen. Send me an email with a short synopsis, and if it sounds interesting I'll request a copy and give it a once-over. If I don't answer your email, don't be offended. I'm swamped with requests...

Forums, Threads and Posts What is a bulletin board? A bulletin board is an online discussion site. It's sometimes also called a 'board' or 'forums'. It may contain several categories, consisting of forums, threads and individual posts. How is all this structured? The bulletin board as a whole contains various categories (broad subject areas), which themselves contain forums (more specific subject areas) which contain threads (conversations on a topic) which are made up of individual posts (where a user writes something). The board home page has a list of categories and forums, with basic statistics for each - including the number of threads and posts, and which member posted the most recent message.

squidoo.com
www.squidoo.com/davidburrows
Squidoo is the popular publishing platform and community that makes it easy for you to create "lenses" online. Lenses are pages, kind of like flyers or signposts or overview articles, that gather everything you know about your topic of interest--and snap it all into focus. Like the lens of a camera, your perspective on something. (You're looking at a lens right now). It's a supersimple, fun and powerful way to share your interests, build your online identity and credibility, and connect with new readers and friends. It's all free, and you could even earn a royalty for charity or yourself. Because there's so much you can DO with Squidoo, we know it can get a little overwhelming when you're brand new and still poking around. So many different ways to make a page, different themes and colors and ... what was that about money? So, while there's a ton more to know (and you'll figure it out over time, never fear) we wanted to put together this overview page for you. It's got some vocabulary, some examples, and a basic lowdown on what you can expect from Squidoo. If you look at the tabs up top, you'll see there's a lot more info here too, like our Terms of Service, a FAQ and more. No need to read it all, but good to reference back to over time.
